The Richton Lady Rebels are one win away from a trip to the Mississippi Coliseum to compete in the MHSAA Class 1A State Tournament’s Final Four.
The Lady Rebels ran past Shaw 65-35 in a second round matchup at home last Friday and will take on West Lincoln in the Elite 8 on Wednesday in Raymond. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Raymond High School.
The win over Shaw was Coach Otto Crawford’s team’s 14th in a row and pushed their overall record to 28-1 on the season.
“We had a great defensive game all around,” Crawford said of his team’s win. “We only allowed 35 points to a good Shaw team.”
“We came out with the energy and maintained the momentum throughout the game. All of the girls played well together and it was a great game for us all as a team.”
Senior Rakhiya Moody’s double-double performance led the way for RHS. Moody finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds, and also added five steals, three assists and two blocked shots.

West Lincoln comes into the matchup with a stellar record of their own. The undefeated Region 7 Champions are currently 26-4 on the year. The Lady Bears reached the Elite 8 by defeating Stringer 60-15 in the first round and followed that up with a 44-21 win over McAdams last Friday.
The winner of Wednesday’s game will advance to take on the winner of the Ingomar – Biggersville matchup being played at Itawamba Community College on Wednesday. That Final 4 game would be played Monday at the Mississippi Coliseum with a projected 4:30 p.m. tip-off time.
