Officials at Leaf River Cellulose warning residents to be alert to active employment scam

Georgia-Pacific Leaf River Cellulose is alerting the Perry and Greene County communities and surrounding area of an active employment scam.

According to company officials, scammers have contacted job seekers by email, phone and text message, offering fraudulent remote employment opportunities and attempting to collect financial and personal information. Company officials warn these communications are not coming on behalf of Georgia-Pacific Leaf River Cellulose.

“We are currently investigating the situation and would like to keep our communities — and their information — safe,” aid Brittney Hall, public affairs manager at Georgia-Pacific Leaf River Cellulose.

Things to keep in mind

  • All legitimate jobs at Georgia-Pacific Leaf River Cellulose are available on the Koch career site.
  • Georgia-Pacific Leaf River Cellulose does not request any form of payment or confidential information during the recruitment and application process, beyond a resume.
  • Georgia-Pacific Leaf River Cellulose does not currently hire for 100 percent remote positions.
  • Georgia-Pacific Leaf River Cellulose will never send funds with instructions for applicants or employees to purchase software or hardware.

Anyone receiving communications regarding a job at Georgia-Pacific Leaf River Cellulose they did not apply for is asked to please send their contact information, along with any texts, emails and documents received to [email protected].

“We take the security of our community seriously,” Hall added. “Anyone receiving a suspicious communication regarding employment at our mill is encouraged to connect with us directly so we can verify its authenticity.”
