Forensic experts and law enforcement officials are working to determine how a human skull ended up in a wooded area in the Little Creek Community and who the skull belonged to.

Perry Co. Sherriff Mitch Nobles said his office is investigating the discovery of a partial human skull off Progress Road in the Little Creek Community near McLain. A deer hunter made the grisly discovery early Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff Nobles said the partial skull was collected by crime scene experts from Hattiesburg and has been sent for forensic testing. It is unclear if the deceased was male or female, but Nobles indicated the skull appeared to have been in the location for quite some time.

More details will follow as they become available.
