A video showing a dog being shot has gone viral on the internet and stirred emotions over animal cruelty and the ability to broadcast anything on the internet. A viral video on social media depicted a dog being shot and a youth laughing about it. Both Lamar and Perry County law enforcement received notification of the video, and both agencies responded. The agencies determined the video was filmed in Perry County, thus giving the Perry County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction over the incident. Perry County Sheriff Mitch Nobles made a statement about the incident.
“Yesterday, our department received information of a dog that was killed along with a video that was posted on Snapchat,” Sheriff Nobles said. “The video was posted later on Facebook. This information was passed to us by the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office.”
Nobles said prior to receiving information about the video, his office had received complaints about the same dog killing chickens, tearing up trash and threatening people and other animals in the area. Nobles said his office took the matter seriously and conducted an investigation into the matter. He said due to the age of the parties involved with the shooting and video incident, the matter has been handed over to juvenile officials.
“We have carefully reviewed this case and have sent the information over to the Perry County Youth Court for further review,” Nobles added. “The individuals involved in this case are juveniles and their names cannot be released.”
