The Richton Rebels remained undefeated in postseason play after a resounding 21-5 victory over the McEvans Hawks in the first game of the teams’ Round 2 series.
Trailing 3-0 entering the third inning, the Rebels turned six hits into five runs to take over the lead. Richton scored another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth before putting the game out of reach with 12 runs during their final at-bat in the seventh.
Jacob Broome had a career day for the Rebels. The senior tossed a complete game to earn the win on the mound and belted two home runs to lead his team at the plate. Broome finished 4-for-6 at the plate with a team-high six RBIs and two runs scored. On the mound, Broome held the Hawks to five runs on seven hits with 11 strikeouts.
Devin Miller and Brannon Riley were both 4-for-5 hitting with a combined five runs and five RBIs. Garrett Brewer and Ty Richard both racked up three hits, combining for six runs and three RBIs.
Richton will host McEvans in Game 2 of the series today at 4 p.m.. If Richton wins, they advance to Round 3, and if McEvans wins, a Game 3 will be played in Shaw on Saturday to determine the winner of the series.
